Eyelid Lifting Blepharoplasty
Bring back life to tired eyes with eyelid lifting blepharoplasty in Southlake. The eyelid lift, also called blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery, is a procedure that corrects excess skin on your upper and lower eyelids.
Droopy eyelids can have disadvantages that affect both the appearance and function of the eyes. Dr. Mona Stone’s years of experience in facial cosmetic surgery allow her to give blepharoplasty patients a brighter and more youthful appearance.
What Is Eyelid Lifting Blepharoplasty?
Sagging upper eyelids can block your vision and affect daily activities like driving or simply reading notifications on your phone. It’s also hard to determine one’s emotions with baggy or droopy eyelids, since they often lead to looking constantly sad or tired.
Eyelid lifting blepharoplasty can restore clearer peripheral vision and create a younger look for the eyes. This surgical procedure addresses excess tissue on the upper and lower eyelids. It can tighten sagging muscle tissue, tighten or remove excess skin, and remove or reposition excess fat.
Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Lifting Blepharoplasty?
The best candidates for eyelid lifting blepharoplasty are physically healthy individuals who want to correct their drooping or bulging eyelids. People with medical conditions that can impair healing may experience complications during and after the surgery such as infections and blood clots.
The result of the procedure will vary from person to person, so it is important to have realistic goals for eyelid surgery.
Eyelid lifting produces the best results for non-smokers. Smoking can lead to slower incision healing, so patients must avoid smoking cigarettes or using nicotine devices four to six weeks before and after surgery.
People with dry-eye, hypertension, blood-circulation disorders, thyroid disorders, diabetes, or heart disease are not ideal candidates for eyelid surgery. Undergoing this procedure with any of these medical conditions can put the patient’s health at risk.
Your Eyelid Lifting Blepharoplasty Consultation
An eye lift consultation will involve a discussion between you and Dr. Stone about your medical history and expectations. Allergies will be discussed, as will all past procedures and current medications.
After the consultation, you will have a physical examination and a vision exam. Photographs will be taken for before-and-after purposes. This will help Dr. Stone create a surgical plan for your eyelid lifting blepharoplasty. The results of your vision exam will also be used to support an insurance claim if you are undergoing the procedure due to vision impairment.
Anesthesia will be administered at the beginning of the procedure. Blepharoplasty can be used on both the upper and lower eyelids, or separately, depending on the patient’s diagnosis and goals.
If the procedure should include both sets of eyelids, Dr. Stone will work on the upper eyelids first. Tiny incisions will be made in the natural folds of the eyelid, and then excess skin, muscle, or fat will be addressed. Incisions will then be closed.
The lower-eyelid incision may be created just below the lashes. It can also be created inside the lower eyelid. Just like in the upper eyelid, excess tissue will be removed or repositioned as needed.
The Recovery Process
The eyelids will be swollen and bruised for a time following the surgery. You may go out and return to work once cleared to do so. Once the eyelids have fully healed, you will be able to see the full results of the procedure.
